Overview
Kyle Vanderburg’s *Miniwashitu* was selected for performance at the International Double Reed Society’s 54th Annual Conference as part of The Contrabassoon Character Project, an initiative led by Dr. Martin Van Klompenberg, NDSU bassoon instructor. Presented June 13, 2025, at Butler University in Indianapolis, the performance brought this NDSU faculty collaboration before an international professional community of double-reed performers, educators, composers, and scholars while contributing new repertoire for the comparatively underserved contrabassoon.
Professional Context
This performance combines NDSU faculty collaboration with international juried dissemination. Vanderburg composed *Miniwashitu* for The Contrabassoon Character Project, an initiative led by Dr. Martin Van Klompenberg, NDSU’s bassoon instructor, to develop and present contemporary repertoire for contrabassoon. The work was subsequently selected for performance at the International Double Reed Society’s 54th Annual Conference, bringing an NDSU-originated creative collaboration before the international professional community most directly connected to the instrument.
