Overview
Kyle Vanderburg’s “Debugging the Composer: Designing a Tool for Self-Reported Composition Processes” was peer reviewed and selected for presentation at the 2024 Association for Technology in Music Instruction National Conference in Washington, D.C. The project introduced a framework and web-based tool for documenting composers’ self-reported actions during the creative process and exporting data for analysis. Vanderburg demonstrated the system with preliminary results, addressing methodological challenges in systematically documenting and studying how composers create music.
